Abstract

1321751 Ceiling mounted ventilators J R RACHLIN and R O NEUDEK 19 April 1971 [11 Feb 1970] 21638/71 Heading F4V In a combination of a slot diffuser and a suspended ceiling having panels 17 supported by a grid of support rails 15, 16, the diffuser spans the distance between two adjacent rails 15, is supported solely by the rails and comprises interfitting prefabricated components. In the form shown, two bars 21, 22 are spaced apart and connected at each end by a bracket having wings 38 which are received in channels on each bar and hooked fingers 40 which are clipped on to the rails 15. The fingers 40 are arranged to interdigitate with the fingers 42 of an adjacent bracket so as to align adjacent diffusers. A plate 58 having air flow straightening vanes 61 may be provided between the bars 21, 22. An air supply duct of resilient fibreglass has its edges received in channels formed by the bars 21, 22. Flanges 24 are provided with sliding shutters 55, the flanges 24 being grooved to permit discrete movement of the shutters. A cover-plate 64 extends the length of the or all aligned diffusers. In another embodiment, the flanges 24 are arranged higher up the bars 21, 22 and the plate 64 is replaced by a plate positioned midway between the bars 21, 22. The rails 15, 16 are of inverted T or channel section and are suspended by wires. Several diffusers may be arranged at right angles to one another in the ceiling. The fibreglass duct may be omitted and the space above the ceiling may serve as a plenum. The diffuser is made of sheet metal and extruded aluminium.
