Abstract

1321589 Iminodibenzyls R KITAMURA E KITAMURA T KITAMURA and T KITAMURA 19 April 1971 [23 Feb 1970] 22293/71 Heading C2C Iminodibenzyl compounds are prepared by heating 2,2<SP>1</SP>-diaminodibenzyl optionally substituted on the benzene ring(s) in the presence of at least one catalyst comprising a metal salt, an ammonium salt, a complex of a metal salt or an ammonium salt with 2,2<SP>1</SP>-diaminodibenzyl optionally substituted on the benzene ring(s), a complex of a metal salt with ammonia, a phosphorus halide, a phosphorus oxyhalide or a halogen. Specified catalysts are halides and sulphates of Li, Mg, Al, Si, Cu, Ca, Zn, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Ag, Cd, Sn, Sb, Pd, Ba, Hg, Pb, Bi and Pt, NH 4 Cl, NH 4 Br, NH 4 I, (NH 4 ) 2 SO 4 , complexes of these salts with optionally substituted 2,2<SP>1</SP>-diaminodibenzyl, complexes of the said metal salts with ammonia, and iodine. The examples relate to the preparation of iminodibenzyl itself, 3,7-dichloroiminodibenzyl and 3,7-dimethyliminodibenzyl. Complexes of metal salts and optionally substituted iminodibenzyls are prepared by heating the components in the melt or admixing solutions of the components.
