Abstract

1321063 Web feeding device ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc 28 July 1970 [28 July 1969] 51809/72 Divided out of 1321062 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions B8 and E2] A continuous thermoplastic web 6 is fed to forming moulds carried about the curved periphery of a moulding drum by a series of spring clips 26 which engage the upper edge of the web and let it hang freely. Each clip includes a pair of spring clamping elements having upper parallel sections mounted by shafts 196 to the links of a chain 28, divergent/convergent middle body sections 208, 210 and lower parallel clamping sections 212, 214 which engage the web. Reciprocably mounted within the clamping elements is a plunger 215, the lower end of which is provided with a foot section 223 having a curved lower surface provided with guiding wing elements 225, 227 which move through slots 228, 230 in the clamping elements. A cross shaft 216 passing through an elongated slot 221 in the plunger is provided to assist in guiding the plunger and to limit its movement. In use, when each clip nears the moulding station, the chain passes over a sprocket 232 the teeth 234 of which engage the upper end of the plunger and force it downwardly to move the clamping sections apart and release the sheet.
