Abstract

1321023 Artificial legs AKADEMIA MEDYCZNA 7 May 1971 [14 May 1970] 13759/71 Heading A5R An adjustable above-knee prosthesis comprises an upper bolt 13, the head of which is movable in a groove 2 in a socket plate 1 and the shank of which passes through a block 22 and is movable in a slot 4 of a bridge 5, the upper bolt 13 being secured by a nut 14; a spherical joint comprising an inner element 7 and a split ring 6 as an outer element, the contacting surfaces thereof being part spherical, the joint being clamped by an encircling clamp 8 and the bridge 5 being connected to the split ring 6; a lower bolt 16 the shank of which is movable in a slot 9 in the inner element 7 and in a slot 10 in an upper part 23 of a knee joint, and is secured by a nut 17; and a shank tube 11 carrying a prosthetic foot 3 and clamped by a clamp 12 to a shaft which extends downwardly from a lower part 24 of the knee joint. Relative adjustment of the above members may be made on releasing nuts 14, 17 and clamps 8, 12. The knee joint has a lock 26 and a friction device adjustable by bolts such as 27. The socket 19 may be of plaster or plastics. In the former case, the plate 1 is attached by means of metal strips cast into socket walls by a plaster bandage wrap.
