Abstract

1320879 Purification of aromatic diamines IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 2 Feb 1972 [24 Feb 1971] 5338/71 Heading C2C Ortho-aromatic diamines are removed from a mixture of isomeric aromatic diamines by a process which comprises in sequence (1) removing ortho-diamines by physical treatment of the mixture and (2) further reducing the content of ortho-diamines by chemical treatment of the product of (1) from which ortho-diamines have already been partly removed. The physical treatment is preferably a distillation process and the chemical treatment preferably involves treatment with compounds containing the -NH-CO-NH- moiety or a compound which gives a compound containing this moiety by reaction with the diamine. The isomeric aromatic diamine is preferably isomeric tolylene diamine.
