1320830 Knit-deknit textured yarns; knitting E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 20 Dec 1971 [6 Jan 1971] 5909.1/71 Headings D1C D1F D1K and D1W A process for the production of knit-deknit textured yarns comprises forming a bundle 14 of a plurality of yarn ends 10 fed from stationary sources 12 at substantially the same speed along separate converging paths at an angle to each other; knitting the bundle 14 into a tube 22 without the introduction of real twist; heat-setting the knitted tube, e.g. using heater plates 26; unravelling the bundle 52 from the tube while maintaining the tube in a twistless state; separating the bundle 52 into yarn ends 70; and taking up each end at substantially the same speed. The bundle 52 may be unravelled from the heat-set tube in a continuous process, or the tube 50 may be folded back and forth on itself and subsequently unravelled. In a further embodiment, the knitted tube 22 is wound onto a roll and subjected to heat-setting in an autoclave. The yarn ends making up the bundle may be the same or different. The separated yarn ends may be taken up on one take-up device 60, but are preferably taken up on separate devices 60, the peripheral speeds of which are controlled to ensure the yarns are taken up at the same speed. Yarn tension regulators may be positioned upstream and/or downstream of the separating device 56. The knitting head 16 comprises a stationary circular needle bed and a rotating ring feed device 18 having a feed hole 20 through which the bundle 14 passes. The yarns produced have a saw-tooth-like crimp having straight portions in zigzag arrangement with rounded apices.
