Abstract

1320787 Paper FELDMUHLE ANLAGENUND PRODUKTIONS GmbH 25 June 1970 [25 June 1969] 30866/70 Headings D2A and D2B Bonded fibre fabrics or paper are produced on a paper-making machine by a process which comprises supplying all or part of the fibres in the dry state directly into the surface of liquid in the headbox of the machine by means of an electric field, and forming the sheet on the machine wire, all fibres larger than 6 mm. being supplied via the electric field. As shown, dry fibre is supplied to hopper 7, which is preferably vibrated, whence it is allowed to fall into headbox 1, electric generator 21 being connected between hopper 7 and brass plate 4 set into the floor of the headbox. Suction is applied at 3 behind inclined wire run 2, and also below a horizontal run. Plate 11 is provided to deflect and mix the pulp. The fibres added to the headbox may alternatively be self-charged by friction, when headbox water is earthed. Normal papermaking fibres may be present in the headbox liquid, a poly(acrylic ester) dispersion added to the pulp water, and a latex binder sprayed onto the web during drying. The fibres supplied by the electric field may be of polyamide, or of regenerated cellulose.
