Abstract
1320735 Toothed gearing RHEINMETALL GmbH 15 Oct 1970 [18 Oct 1969] 49059/70 Heading F2Q An antibacklash toothed gear drive (e.g. for tank turrets; turnable gun mounts &c.) comprises an output gear 54 driven via two parallel gear trains 38, 40, 43, 47 and 39, 41, 49, 53 from an axially biased (e.g. by a spring 34 or fluid pressure) input shaft 32 integral with two helically toothed pinions 32a, 32b of the same pitch circle and tooth pitch, but with their helix angles of opposite hand, each pinion driving one of the trains. The output gear 54 may have internal teeth. If the shaft 32 is biased by fluid pressure, this may be varied with the input torque. The input shaft 32 may be driven by a gear train 30a, 31, of which one gear 31 is moved normal to Fig. 4 to reduce backlash in this train.
