Abstract

1320678 Mixing apparatus; polymerisation reactor KURARAY CO Ltd 21 July 1971 [25 July 1970] 34225/71 Headings B1C and B1X A continuous reactor comprises a chamber 1 having in its lower part a rotor 2 having at least one agitator-scraper blade 4 parallel to but spaced from the axis of rotation and at least one helical or part-helical coaxial plate 3 secured to the agitator blade, there being no shaft extending along the axis adjacent the agitator blade 4. As shown the rotor is supported in stub shafts 6, 6' as the chamber has an inlet 7, product outlet 8 and vent 9 for removal of volatiles under reduced pressure. The apparatus is intended for use with processes in which the product (e.g. polyethylene terephthalate is more viscous than the reactants; the helical plates may then be progressively more widely spaced towards the outlet.
