Abstract

1320666 Electrophotographic element EASTMAN KODAK CO 8 Feb 1972 [8 Feb 1971] 5786/72 Heading H1K Also in Division G2] An electrophotographic element comprises a support having a photoconductive layer thereon the layer comprising (a) an organic photoconductor, (b) a polymeric binder comprising a chlorinated hydrocarbon resin, a vinyl haloarylate resin or a polyester containing recurring units of formula wherein R is an alkylene radical, B<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are alkyl or taken together with the attached carbon atom are the carbon atoms necessary to comcomplete a cycloalkylene or polycycloalkylene radical and (c) a dithiolium, cyanine, merocyanine or pyrylium dye as a sensitizer. The photoconductive layer is such that upon exposure to an organic solvent for the layer, the sensitizing dye exhibits a shift in absorption. In the specific embodiments the support is claycoated paper bearing a coating of a conductive polymer of a quarternary ammonium compound. The binder is poly(isopropylidene-bisphenoxyethyl-co-ethylene isophthalate) and the photoconductor is methyl-3-(p-diphenylainophenyl) propionate.
