Abstract

1320208 Injection-moulding chains P FLORJANCIC 4 Aug 1970 [13 Aug 1969] 37667/70 Heading B5A Chains, etc. are formed by locating a pair of preformed chain links in a four part mould in a feed channel thereof with their planes parallel and overlapping and with their longitudinal axes parallel and injection moulding a link to interconnect the pair and opening the mould to release the newly moulded link and at least one of the preformed links from the feed channel. As shown in Figs. 5, 7, the apparatus comprises an injection cylinder 7, a carrier plate 1 having a first slide rail 2 thereon, and a locking plate 3 bearing a mould block 4 in which is mounted a second slide rail 5. Mould parts 8<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>11</SP>, are slidably mounted on rail 2 and when open, recesses (10, Fig. 1, not shown) thereon engage spring-urged balls (12) on rail 2. Rail 5 is urged from block 4 by springs 18 toward stops 19<SP>1</SP>, 1911 and carries mould parts 9<SP>1</SP>, 9<SP>11</SP> urged apart by springs 20 towards stops 22. The mould parts 8<SP>1</SP>, 8<SP>11</SP>, 9<SP>1</SP>, 9<SP>11</SP> have tapering co-acting guide surfaces (14-17, Fig. 3, not shown), and are recessed to receive a feed channel 24 for the preformed elements. Channel 24 is pivoted at 25 and urged outwardly by spring 23 to the position of Fig. 7. Elements 31, 33, 41, 43, 51, 53 etc. are arranged in channel 24 so that the nearer shank of element 31 is aligned with the further shank of element 33 and are held therein by springy stops 27 at the foot of channel 24. In the position of Fig. 5, a new element 32 is moulded to interlink the elements 31, 33. On opening the mould, as in Fig. 7, pressure is applied to elements 51, 41, 31, so that they are displaced downwardly, element 31 pulling element 32 down with it and being replaced by element 41. On reclosing the mould, (Fig. 8, not shown) a new element (34) is found interlinking elements 33, 41. On reopening (Fig. 10, not shown) pressure is applied to elements 53, 43, 33 to displace elements 33, (34), 43, 53 downwardly so that a new element (42) may be moulded interlinking elements 41, 43, as before.
