Abstract
1,015,779. Injection moulding chains. CALDMORE TOOLS Ltd. Sept. 15, 1964 [Oct. 29, 1963], No 42509/63 Heading B5A. Relates to the injection moulding of chains in a mould comprising four separable die parts 3, 7, 11, 17a having abutting faces 5, 6, 9, 10, 16, 17, 18, 19 formed with grooves 23, 24 (Fig. 2, not shown) which define link cavities when the mould is closed, and feed channels 26 formed between one pair 3, 17a of die parts. According to the invention, initial opening of the mould moves the die parts 3 and 11 substantially at right angles to one another and away from the remaining die parts 7, 17a, and means (29, 31, Fig. 3, not, shown) for stripping material from the feed channel is operated before the die parts 7, 17a are moved to release the chain. As shown, a second chain is moulded simultaneously between die parts 17a, 12, 8, 4. When a platen 1 carrying die parts 3, 4 is moved to open or close the mould the parts 11, 12 are moved simultaneously by engagement of inclined pillars 14 and recesses 15. The sprue stripping means comprises a spring-biased pin 29 slidable within the die part 17a. During the initial opening the head of the pin lies within the part 17a and the portion 31 acts as a hook to pull sprue from the passage 25. Further movement causes the pin 29 to contact a stop 33 and the surplus material is stripped from the moulded chain.
