Abstract
1320151 Delivering cigarettes in orderly arrangement MOLINS MACHINE CO Ltd 20 July 1970 [18 April 1969] 19999/69 Heading A2C [Also in Division G1] An apparatus in which cigarettes 11 or other rod-like articles, issuing from a continuous rod cut-off in their axial direction, are accelerated by an accelerator 10 and transferred to a conveyer 12 which then carries them in a lateral direction 13; includes a detector comprising a solid-state radiation emitter 14 which passes a beam across the path of the axially moving cigarettes 11 at a point where a gap is formed between successive cigarettes 11 by the action of the accelerator 10, and a radiation pick-up device 15 which receives the radiation beam whenever a gap between successive cigarettes allows it to do so. Preferably the emitter 14 emits an infra red beam, but an ultra-violet beam emitter may be used. The detector may be used as a monitoring device to stop the machine when the normal succession of pulses from the pick-up 15 ceases, using an electronic logic circuit as disclosed in Specification 1,066,056, or it may be used in association with apparatus for assembling the cigarettes with mouthpieces whereby, when the machine is being started, the delivery of mouthpieces starts at a predetermined interval of time after the emission of the first pulse from the pick-up device 15.
