Abstract

1319877 Setting a textile web BRUCKNER - APPARATEBAU MICHELSTADT GmbH 19 April 1971 [2 April 1970] 26196/71 Headings D1L and D1P A textile web made wholly or partly of synthetic thermoplastic material, is set by contacting it with a hot organic liquid having a boiling point greater than 100‹C and maintained between 100‹C and its boiling point, and subsequently cooling the web by means of a cold airstream which also removes the liquid from the web. The liquid functions simultaneously as a washing medium for the web. The liquid may be perchloroethylene, to which a swelling agent and a colouring and/or brightening agent may be added. In one embodiment, Fig. 2, the web 4 is conveyed on a mesh belt 16 and tenter chains 17 which allow a predetermined shrinkage, through a preheating zone 13, a setting chamber 14 having sprays 18 which apply solvent to the web, and a quenching zone 15 in which excess solvent is removed. The excess solvent is collected in containers 19, 21 and is recirculated via purifying and re-heating means 24. In a modification, the web may be guided over a further suction cylinder in the setting zone 14, and around which the sprays 18 are semicircularly arranged. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown) the web is contacted with hot solvent by immersion, and quenching is effected by cold air streams from successive sets of nozzles (7), (11). The air is recirculated through condenser and adsorption devices (10), (12) to remove solvent, and may be re-cooled.
