Steering - gear. - Consists in providing safety or locking means for roadvehicle steering-gear oi the kind in which a toothed wheel b operated by the steering-handle rotates a central pair of gears a, a' of unequal radius which engage with lateral pairs of segmental gears c, d connected to the road wheels. The locking- means consist of toothed plates s on the upper central gear a<1> which engages toothed plates r on the upper lateral segmental gears when the steering gear is in the straight-ahead position, and which are adapted to prevent disengagement of the gears when the road wheels strike an obstruction.
