Abstract
1319552 Multiple-effect evaporators AEROJET-GENERAL CORP 19 April 1971 [10 Feb 1970] 20150/71 Heading B1B Feed liquor, e.g. brine, flowing to a multipleeffect evaporator is preheated in a bundle of heat-conductive tubes 21 extending axially through a cylindrical housing 11 divided by bulkheads 14, 15 into chambers 16, 17, 18 wherein partial flash vaporization of superheated condensate withdrawn from the evaporator effects takes place, the condensate being introduced into the chambers, from the individual effects, through conduits 33, 34, 35. Hot vapours from the effects are introduced into the chambers through conduits 36, 37, 38. The condensate of the flashed vapour drips back into the non-vaporized condensate in the base of each chamber, and this liquid is removed through conduit 39, 40 or 41. The tubes 21 are arranged, between baffles 19 and 20, so that the area of vapour-flow continuously diminishes as the vapour rises through the tube-bundle. Non-condensible gases are collected in manifolds 27, 28, 29; and are vented through tubes 30, 31, 32. The distance between the outermost preheater tubes and baffles 19 and 20 should not exceed the smallest distance between two adjacent tubes of the bundle.
