1319089 Impact pulverizer's F-O BRECKNER 5 Aug 1970 [5 Aug 1969] 37893/70 Heading B2A A mill comprises a hopper, a guide chamber for material fed in, an air mixer, a preliminary chopper in the guide chamber, hammers and a grinding path with inlet and outlet, wherein the cross-section of the grinding path is adjustable. In a first embodiment the mill comprises a housing 1, Fig. 1, with a hinged cover 2, Fig. 2, and a rotor disc 6, supporting pivoted hammers 12 which are mounted on studs 10. The ends of the hammers have hard plates 12a having sharp or toothed impact edges. The hammers cooperate with an adjustable baffle wall-and-rib arrangement 21, 22. This may comprise segment-shaped carrier elements 22 hinged together and adjusted by a mechanism 24..26. Detachable baffle ribs may be formed as segments mounted on the segments 22 or be individually detachable. Alternatively the baffle wall may comprise a single arcuate carrying element with detachable and exchangeable ribs. A stripping device 36 between an inlet 19 to the grinding track and outlet 27 prevents ground produce passing from the outlet to the inlet. The housing cover 2 has a bulge 4 so that a gap is left between circumference of the disc and a conical shell part 4a, the gap connecting the grinding chamber with a guide chamber 7. Strip or bar shaped delivery fingers 13 are arranged on the disc 6 facing the guide chamber 7 and each has a surface 49, Fig. 3, with scoop-shaped X-section, and a detachable double-edged chopper 43. In operation, material supplied via an inlet 15 is chopped as it enters the guide chamber 7, passes through the gap between the disc 6 and wall 4a and is hurled by the hammers via the inlet 19 against the ribs 21 bounding the grinding path and leaves via the outlet 27. In a second embodiment, the baffle ribs are supported on a steel strip or spring or a plastics strip, whose arc may be varied by adjustors (24..26), Fig. 4 (not shown). The baffle wall may be set eccentrically to the circle of the rotor hammers causing an acceleration of air flow through the grinding track (11), thus reducing the dwell time of material and producing a coarser grind. Knife edges are provided on the hammers and baffle ribs, Fig. 7. A third embodiment provides adjustment of flow between the guide chamber and grinding path by having removable steel plates or partitions 5, Fig. 5, with recesses 17 of different sizes or by having a partially rotatable plate 5 to adjust the flow cross-section. The housing and guide chamber may have reinforcing liners and the guide chamber line may have ribs serrations or teeth.
