Abstract

131,837. Simmons, F. C. March 1, 1919. Gauge glasses and the like.-To avoid making additional openings in the petrol tank of a motor cycle or the like when fitting a liquid level gauge, a gauge consisting of an inverted U-tube D' is fixed permanently to the cap C' of the filling opening, one limb of the tube passing through the cap downwards into the tank, and the other limb having an upwardly extending glass tube H' fitted on its lower end. Petrol is drawn into the glass tube each time the tank is refilled by a rubbed bulb J fitted on the top of the tube. The glass tube has a restriction H<3> at its upper end and is fitted with a float K, which by closing the restricted part of the tube prevents petrol from being drawn out of the gauge. The outer limb of the U-tube and the glass tube are inclined so that the gauge is readily visible to the rider. The outer limb of the U-tube presses firmly against the side of the tank.
