131,827. Feeny, V. F., (Sherry Water Tube Boiler Co.). Feb. 6, 1919. Water-tube boilers.-Relates to boilers of the kind comprising an upper drum A, two lower drums 2, and front and rear flat water slabs or headers 4, 5 connected to the drums, the headers being connected together by staggered inclined water tubes, and return-circulation tubes being arranged on each side of the combustion chamber. The upper ends of the headers are contracted at their sides and are connected to the bottom of the upper drum The headers open into the lower drums at the bottom corners of the headers. The return-circulation tubes 23 are curved inwardly at their upper ends to correspond with the contraction of the headers. Vertical rows of tubes in each of the tube sets 8, 9 are alternately inclined in opposite directions, and a baffle 17 is so arranged between the sets as to direct the gases backwards and forwards among the tubes. The gases escape through short tubes 19 in the top of the front header into a space 20 between the header and the boiler casing, whence they pass into the uptake. Feed is supplied through a nozzle 41 opening into a transverse drum 40 connected to the rear ends of the lower drums. Scum is blown off through a nozzle 42 on the transverse drum.
