Abstract

1318192 Bearings DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 25 Aug 1970 [2 Sept 1969 (2)] 43324/69 and 43325/69 Heading F2A A bearing arrangement for concentric shafts of a gas turbine engine 11 in which a shaft 19 is mounted within a hollow shaft 14 comprises a sleeve 34 coupled for rotation with the outer shaft 19 in bearing engagement with the inner shaft 19. Two annular projections 44, 45 provided on the interior of the hollow shaft on either side of the sleeve are so arranged as to retain oil in the bearing during operation. Oil is supplied to the bearing through apertures 32 from the interior of the inner shaft 19. The projections also serve to limit relative axial movement of the shafts. The inner shaft is preferably lobed. The sleeve may be made in two parts urged together by a C spring 54.
