Abstract
1318131 Brightening kraft pulp ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO 26 Aug 1971 [15 Sept 1970] 40172/71 Heading D1P Kraft pulp is bleached and brightened by contact with an aqueous solution of t-butyl hydroperoxide at pH 8-10.5 at a temperature of from 20-100C. Such treatment may take place immediately after formation of the pulp or after a preliminary bleaching treatment with chlorine and sodium hydroxide and optionally hypochlorite. Elevated pressure may be used in the contact step. Alkalinity is adjusted by means of sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate.
