Abstract

1317901 Moulding tyres DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 26 June 1970 [1 July 1969] 33164/69 Heading B5A In a method of manufacturing a pneumatic tyre a treadless tyre cover is shaped substantially to its toroidal shape in the completed tyre after which a protection coating is applied to the tread area of the cover, and the cover is partially cured, the tyre tread being then applied after removing the coating. The coating may comprise a single layer of film e.g. of polyethylene, polypropylene, or a winding of overlapping strip; alternatively it may comprise a liquid coating which sets solid. Partial curing of the cover is effected in a two-part mould with a curing bag supplied with hot water; after the application of tread the tyre is again placed in a mould and fully cured under heat and pressure.
