Abstract

1317677 Opening containers E P REMY ET CIE 7 Oct 1971 [24 Dec 1970] 46742/71 Heading B8C and B8D A device for cutting off the top neck portions of sealed internally sterile plastics bottles in a sterile environment prior to filling comprises a sterile enclosure isolated from atmosphere and formed by a transparent casing 2 and a bottom wall 1, rotary drive turrets 11 and 12 for driving the bottles past a stationary cutting blade 21, a funnel 30 for discharging the neck portions from the enclosure, and hydraulic sealing arrangements 118-128, 33 associated with the turrets and funnel for preventing atmospheric communication with the enclosure. The turrets each comprise upper and lower plates 110, 120 and 111, 121, Fig. 2 (not shown), having peripheral recesses 113a, 113b, 123, 114a, 114b, and 124 adapted to grip the bottle, and base-plates 116,12 6 having skirts 117, 127 forming hydraulic joints with water-filled channels 118, 128. The turrets are synchronously-driven in opposite rotational directions by gear-coupled shafts. Guide rails 14 and 15 are provided. The blade has a V-shaped tip and is adjustably-mounted by clamps 22-27, Fig. 4 (not shown). The upper plates of the turrets are circumferentially grooved at 110a and 120a to accommodate the blade tip.
