Abstract

1317122 Catch fastenings THORN ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 29 April 1971 12213/71 Heading E2A [Also in Divisions F4 and H2] An electrical component such as an indicator lamp or fuse is mounted in a holder 16 which can be inserted into a housing 14 through an aperture 17 in a panel 12 to which the housing is secured and removed from the housing when the component requires replacement, the holder being retained in the housing with its front face flush with the surface 13 of the panel by means of a latching mechanism which can be released by pressing the holder inwardly. Resilient means are provided for urging the holder outwardly when the latch is released. The latch comprises an abutment element 28 on one end wall of the holder 16 and a pawl 26 which is pivotally mounted on the corresponding wall of the housing 14 and is biased in an anti-clockwise direction (Figure 4) by a spring 29. When the holder is pushed into the housing against the force exerted by the resilient means (which are preferably the spring-loaded electrical contacts to the component) a claw 30 at the free end of the pawl rides up the inclined edge 33 of the abutment element 28 until it snaps over a tooth 34 on the element and engages a tooth 35 provided on the holder at a position spaced from the element to arrest rotation of the pawl. When the pressure on the holder is relaxed the resilient means cause the holder to move a short distance outwardly to the position shown in Figure 4 whereupon the claw 30 is released from the tooth 35 and abuts against a tooth 32 on the element 28. When it becomes necessary to remove the holder from the housing it is pressed inwardly until the claw 30 clears the end of the tooth 32, thereby releasing the latch and allowing the resilient means to force the holder out of the housing. Complete ejection is prevented by the engagement of the claw 30 with a ramp 40 on the holder, removal being effected by gripping the projecting portion of the holder with the fingers and pulling it out. The holder is pivoted to one end of a link 41 slidable in a track 42 in the housing so that when it has been removed from the housing it can be turned to the position shown in Figure 2.
