Abstract
1317081 Electronic timepieces E BERNHEIM 27 April 1971 [27 April 1970] 11669/71 Heading G3T An electro-mechanical oscillator for driving a timepiece movement comprises a flexion blade 12, Fig.2, having secured thereto by adhesive drive and pick-up piezo-electric crystals, 11, 13 respectively which form an oscillatory circuit with a transistor T and are electrically interconnected e.g. through the blade material. The arrangement is such that the free end of the blade, in operation, oscillates at a sub-harmonic of the oscillatory circuit frequency which may be in excess of 1000 Hz the blade end oscillating at 400-600 Hz. The blade end has secured thereto a transmission member 17 with a jewel engaging teeth of a pinion 18. The preferred length of the crystals is 20-25% of the blade length. In an alternative arrangement Fig.1, the oscillations of a drive blade 2 are transmitted via a holder 5 to a blade 4 carrying the pick-up crystal 3. In this case the crystals may also be electrically inter-connected through the holder material and the blades. Coils S and Resistor 5 function to limit the amplitude of pulses produced by the crystals. In a further embodiment Fig. 3 (not shown) which is similar to Fig. 1, one blade carries both crystals and the other blade carries the transmission member. The blade or blades may have a longitudinal slit extending from the free-end (as illustrated Fig.4, not shown) to increase the oscillation amplitude of the blade. The blades may be of metal alloy or alternatively synthetic plastics.
