Abstract

1316641 Continuous rod cut-off MOLINS Ltd 19 April 1971 [17 Feb 1970 14 Jan 1971] 7626/70 and 1924/71 Heading A2C [Also in Division B3] A damping member is arranged to touch the knife of the cut-off device, at least in the event of the knife vibrating at or above a predetermined amplitude, so as to damp down vibrations of the knife. In one embodiment, the cigarette rod cut-off device of Specification 1,238,458 is modified by the provision of two damping members which respectively contact the knife after the knife passes each of its two grinders. In other embodiments, the cutoff device of Specification 1,000,174 is modified by having damping members which are either carried by its ledger so as to contact the knife while it is performing each cut, or which constitute the sleeves of the ledger through which the rod passes. The damping member may be formed of wood or a plastics material such as Tufnol (Trade Mark).
