Abstract
1316561 Track apparatus BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD 20 Jan 1972 [10 Feb 1971] 4379/71 Heading B7N Passive transponders (14) alongside railway track (11) are triggered by a transmitter on train (10) and transmit speed limit, track gradient, etc., data to a receiver on the train. Active devices (15) may also be provided for continuously transmitting real time data, e.g. signal aspect, to the train. Train mounted equipment responsive to e.g. a permanent magnet at the transponder positions is also provided which supplies a fault signal if the transponder fails to respond when a magnet is detected. The fault detecting apparatus can be assisted by distance measuring devices or a stored programme on the train. A number of identical transponders can be provided at each point to guard against one failing.
