1316451 Vehicle testing SPETSIALNOE KONSTRUKTORSKOE NAUCHNOISSLEDOVATELSKOE BJURO MINISTERSTVA AVTOMOBILNOGO TRANSPORTA SHOSSEINYKH DOROG LSSR 19 June 1970 [20 June 1969 (3)] 29828/70 Heading B7J An automated vehicle diagnostic station comprises first and second pairs 1 and 2 of electrically driven dynamometer rollers 7, 8 having an adjustable wheel base on which the vehicle under test is placed, the vehicle then being connected up to an exhaust draw out pipe 167, a stroboscope for diagnosing clutch slip, Fig. 8 (not shown), and temperature probes to determine the temperature differential existing in the radiator, further pickups are connected to the vehicle to measure fuel consumption, fuel pressure, secondary ignition voltage, starter current, T.D.C., inlet manifold pressure, crank shaft speed, oil pressure, crankcase blow-by, king pin clearances, propellor shaft play, gear-box main shaft play, rear axle drive shaft play, luminosity of lights, position of light beams, condition of battery, panel lights, clutch and brake linkage, steering wheel play, brake and clutch pedal play, and then the vehicle is driven through a sequence of operations, and measurements taken which if different from the normal cause signals to be fed into a unit which processess logically the information and stores it in a memory for automatic read out. To test hydraulic brakes a union is screwed into the brake line and the residual and service pressures measured. For air brakes, pickups measure the pressures in various parts of the system including the vehicle-to-trailer coupling.
