Abstract

1316294 Power steering DIAMLER-BENZ A G 6 Aug 1970 [8 Aug 1969] 19680/72 Divided out of 1316293 Heading B7H In a power assisted vehicle steering system having a steering nut 413 rotatable but not axially displaceable in a cavity in a piston 412 and engageable with an axially fixed worm 415, a toothed sector 418 of a rocker shaft 417 is intersected by an axial plane which is perpendicular to the axis of the rocker shaft 417 and contains the axis 430 of the piston 413, the rocker shaft being perpendicular to a control slide valve 421 which co-operates with the nut 413. A cavity 428 passing through the piston 412 accommodates the nut 413 which has a finger 435 for operating the valve 421. The Worm 415 is supported in the piston 412 at its end remote from the shaft bearing in the end face 471 by way of ball circuit 414, the nut and an oblique contact bearing 413a. The central opening 472 in the piston 412 is sealed by a screw cover 473. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the oblique bearing 413a is replaced by radial and thrust roller bearings.
