1316235 Colostomy appliances A E MARSAN 4 Jan 1972 312/72 Heading A5R A colostomy pouch comprises two sheets (15), (16), Fig. 2 (not shown) joined at their edges 17, 18, 19, 21, one sheet (15) having a drainage opening 22 and adhesive 23 which covers an area on the outer surface around the opening 22, and one sheet having a release coating (26), which releases easily from the adhesive, on its outer surface covering an area at least as great as the area of adhesive 23. Pouches where the adhesive and the release coating are not on the same sheet can be stacked, Fig. 4 (not shown) with the adhesive of one pouch covered by the release coating of an adjoining pouch. In such pouches the sheet carrying the release coating may be folded in one or two places, Figs. 12, 13 (not shown) or Figs. 10, 11 (not shown), to form the whole of one face and part of the other face of the pouch, the other sheet bearing the adhesive and completing the other face of the pouch. Pouches where the adhesive and the release coating are adjacent on the same sheet, Fig. 14 (not shown) can be folded so that the release coating covers the adhesive. In a modification of the embodiment shown, the sheet (16), Fig. 15 (not shown) has a fold (89) extending across the pouch. The pouch is made, Figs. 5-9 (not shown) from two strips of film, preferably polyethylene, which are coated with the adhesive and the release coating respectively. The drainage openings are then punched and the strips heat sealed together and divided intermediate the openings. The films may be coated, e.g. with polyvinylidene chloride, preferably on the outside of the pouch.
