Abstract

1315966 Rock-drill VICTOR PRODUCTS (WALLSEND) Ltd 5 Jan 1971 [5 Nov 1969] 54309/69 Heading B3C A rook drill comprises a rotary drill head 15 movable along a guide 11 by a chain drive 19, 22, 23, 24 the guide being extensible along a column 12. The drill has a base 1 whose bottom plate 2 includes teeth 3 for digging into the floor 9 of a mine. An hydraulic ram has its cylinder 4 fixed to the base and the piston-rod 5 of the ram supports a head 6 whose top plate 7 includes teeth 8 for digging into the roof 10 of the mine. Guide 11 and column 12 are of square crosssection. In operation, the machine is jammed into position by operating ram 4, 5, a wheel 23 is rotated by an hydraulic motor 29 so that drill head 15 is moved along guide 11 by chain 19, and drill rod 17 is guided by a bush 31. Hydraulic motor 18 is operated to rotate the drill rod and the drill head moves up to a stop 33 at which stage tube 11, along with the drill head, continues to be moved upwardly on column 12 until the hole is drilled.
