Abstract

1315819 Grippers on tractor-mounted loader arms SALOPIAN-KENNETH HUDSON Ltd 12 Jan 1971 [31 Oct 1969] 53512/69 Heading B8H A grab 6, mounted at the end of a boom 4 on a vehicle 1 for gathering and picking up elongate articles such as timber or cut sugar cane, consists of a lower jaw 24, which is pivotable relative to the boom by means of a double-acting hydraulic ram 23, and an upper jaw 25, which is pivotable relative to the lower jaw by means of a pair of double-acting hydraulic rams 32. The piston of the ram 23 is formed with an orifice, Fig. 4 (not shown), which allows the lower jaw to pivot downwardly when the ram is not connected by a control valve to the source of pressure fluid. The lower jaw 24 consists of four tines interconnected in pairs, one pair at each side of the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, the tines of each pair being interconnected by a cross-member. Similarly, the upper jaw consists of two pairs of tines, Fig. 2 (not shown).
