Abstract

1315810 Orientating contact pins INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 7 Dec 1971 [23 Dec 1970] 56721/71 Heading B8S Contact pins are fed horizontally to a member moving relative to a vertical abutment, suction slots on the member engage the pins and permit them to rotate to a vertical orientation, the vertical abutment disengages the pins from the suction slots and the vertically orientated pins drop into an orifice. In Fig. 1A the pins are fed by frusto-conical feeder 15 to cylinder 11, are sucked to slots 13 on rotating wheel 12 and assume a vertical orientation under the force of gravity as the wheel rotates. Abutment 17 disengages the suction slot and allows the pin 16 to drop into orifice 18, to which suction is applied. Another embodiment (Figs. 2A to 2C, not shown) comprises a horizontally rotating ring with a plurality of pin bearing surfaces, suction slots retaining the pins on the ring.
