Abstract

131,561. Jackson, W. J. Mellersh-, (Taylor, A.). April 8, 1919. Wireless telegraphy. - In methods of wirel e s s signalling where the radiofrequency is varied by causing the signalling-key to cut in or out part of the aerial inductance, arcing at the contacts is minimized b y dividing the spark over a number of contacts, the arrangement being such that the energy to be handled at each contact is independent of the others, regardless of whether the contacts all open simultaneously or not. The Figure shows a solenoid-actuated switch, which is controlled bv the signalling key through the winding 31. The contacts 15, 25; 16, 26 &c. when opened, cut in sections of the inductance 8<a> independently, owing to the manner in which they are connected up by the conductors 12, 13, 14 and 21, 22. The apparatus is particularly applicable to Poulsen-arc installations, the arc being represented at 3 and the supply circuit at 4, 5.
