Abstract

1315500 Laminates KARLSKONAVARVET AB 4 Nov 1970 [13 Nov 1969] 55687/69 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] A polymerized layer of an ethylenically unsaturated non-linear polyester dissolved in a styrene monomer, reinforced with glass fibres, on a thermoplastic resin surface is formed by coating the thermoplastic resin surface with polymethyl methacrylate prior to formation of the reinforced layer, and thereafter polymerizing the reinforced polyester, in situ, on the polymethyl methacrylate-coated thermoplastic resin surface, whereby the polymethyl methacrylate coating and the polyester layer are bonded together during the polymerization of the polyester. In the examples ground, defatted P.V.C. and A.B.S. copolymer films are coated with polymethylmethacrylate dissolved in dichloromethane and dried. Polyester is applied by brush, a glass fibre carpet applied and the layer of polyester is built up using a roller. Further glass fibre carpets may be applied successively and impregnated with polyester.
