Abstract

1315105 Vapour engine power plant E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 7 Feb 1972 [8 Feb 1971] 5575/72 Headings F1T and F1Q A vapour engine power plant operating on a Rankine cycle uses as working medium a substance consisting of at least one perhalobenzene of the formula: - C6 Br, Cl, F2 where x is from 0 to 2 y is from 0 to 4 z is from 2 to 4 and 1À5x + y is from 2À5 to 4. Examples of the working medium are 1-bromo- 3 -chlorotetrafluorobenzene or a mixture of isomers of trichlorotrifluorobenzene. Other examples are quoted. The plant includes Fig. 1 (not shown) a boiler (1), turbine (2), condenser (3), feed pump (4) and regenerator (5). The condenser is air cooled and may be secured to a rotating type boiler, the latter being of larger diameter so that the condensate is pumped from the condenser to the boiler by centrifugal force.
