Abstract
1314660 Hexamethylenetetramine TENNECO CHEMICALS Inc 24 Sept 1971 34540/72 Addition to 1305041 Heading C2C Uniform free - flowing spheres of hexamethylenetetramine are prepared by a continuous process by (a) passing air heated to a temperature below the decomposition temperature of hexamethylenetetramine up through a confined zone containing finely-divided particles of hexamethylene tetramine at a flow rate sufficient to form a fluidized bed of the particles; (b) spraying into the fluidized bed an aqueous solution which contains 25-35% (by weight) of hexamethylene tetramine and has a pH of 7À0-8À0 in an amount such that the water in the solution is vaporized by the heated air, thereby coating the finely divided particles with hexamethylene tetramine; (c) injecting into the fluidized bed particles of hexamethylene tetramine smaller in size than the average size of the particles in the bed, the particles being injected downwards; and (d) discharging a portion of the hexamethylenetetramine particles from the bed and screening these to obtain a uniform, free-flowing product. The starting solution may be obtained by reacting ammonia with aqueous formaldehyde solution.
