Abstract

1314526 Railway vehicle undercarriages BTR INDUSTRIES Ltd 8 May 1970 [19 May 1969] 25466/69 Heading B7L [Also in Division F2] A resilient bush assembly (e.g. keyed to or an interference fit on a shaft 21) comprises a number of bush elements 23 each having an outer sleeve and an inner sleeve with a sleeve of elastomeric material between facing tapering surfaces, the outer sleeves making an interference fit in a housing 22 (e.g. at the end of a suspension radius arm on a rail vehicle bogie unit to the frame of which the shaft 21 is fixed) and the elastomeric sleeves being compressed on assembly and the inner and outer sleeves of each element (e.g. offset before assembly) engaging those of an adjacent element. The elastomeric sleeve is bonded to at least one of the other sleeves of an element and the outer sleeve may be split into halves so that the end faces of the sleeves need not be offset as shown, compression of the elastomeric material being achieved by the halves being moved radially together. The spring rate of the element shown may be determined by the degree of taper (e.g. 20 degrees) of the surfaces or by the elastomeric material or its thickness. The spring rates of the elements in an assembly may differ.
