1314518 Railings BRITISH ALUMINIUM CO Ltd 14 Sept 1970 [12 Sept 1969] 45162/69 Heading E1B A railing comprises horizontal tubular upper and lower rails 1 having pairs of flanges with inwardly directed lips along their facing surface, vertical rails 3 being secured behind the flanges by dowels 20 and spaced by members' 4 which are engaged between the flanges, and tubular ports 2 having holes 18 through which dowels 17 pass to engage in passages defined by ribs extending along the internal surface of the tubular portion 5 of the rails 1. The dowels 17 may be retained in position within the rails by self-tapping screws 19. The rails may be replaced by continuous sheets or wire mesh. in which case the member 4 is replaced by a continuous member of similar section but inverted, the edge of the sheet or mesh being bedded in mastic or hooked into a channel therein. The vertical edges are received in channels 12 in the posts. The dowels are a loose fit in the holes in the post to allow for minor inclinations. Bent dowels may be provided for pronounced differences in inclination and the holes in opposite faces of the posts may be at different heights. The intermediate vertical rails may be inclined to the top and bottom rails. An intermediate horizontal rail may be provided between the top and bottom rails and has a pair of flanges facing each said rail.
