Abstract
1314385 Aluminium chloride CABOT CORP 29 June 1970 [10 July 1969] 31331/70 Heading C1A A process for producing AlCl 3 vapours comprises contacting a mass of molten Al at above 1220‹ F. with Cl 2 from a primary supply, the exothermic reaction between the aluminium and chlorine producing a vaporous efflux comprising aluminium trichloride, this chlorine from the primary supply being fed into contact with the aluminium at a rate not in excess of that required to maintain the mass at the temperature by the heat generated by the exothermic reaction, injecting into the efflux chlorine from a secondary supply at a location in which the efflux is out of contact with the mass of aluminium and in which the temperature of the efflux has not cooled below that temperature at which condensation of AlCl 3 takes place.
