Abstract

1314242 Permanent thermochromic images LING-TEMCO-VOUGHT Inc 19 May 1970 [19 May 1969] 24173/70 Heading G2C [Also in Divisions G5 H1 and H4] A display device comprises a layer of thermochromic material 53 between electrically conductive members 52, 54 and heating means 55 for raising the temperature of a discrete portion of the material to obtain a colour change therein, the material exhibiting a hysterisis effect i.e. the reflectivity has two values at certain temperatures. A permanent image is formed on polyethylene film or Invar (R.T.M.) sheet coated or impregnated with thermochromic material passed over rollers between plates 52, 54 by writing the information and applying a potential across the plates to produce excessive heating to oxidise the "written" areas.
