Abstract

1314123 Casting composite articles IPARI SZERELVENY-ES GEPGYAR 9 July 1971 [17 July 1970] 32333/71 Heading B3F [Also in Division C7] A process for fastening a sealing ring 1 to a cast metal part for a pipe-line comprises securing a flat ring 2 to that surface of the sealing ring which is intended for engagement with said cast part, locating the two rings on a pattern 4, carrying out a moulding operation, removing the pattern 4 so as to leave the ring 1 partially embedded in the sand, and pouring metal into the mould to form said cast metal part. A further ring 3 may be secured to another surface of the ring 1, the rings 2 and 3 being made in either one or more sections having overlapping ends. The rings 2 and 3 are made of a material having a higher melting point than that of the metal being cast and are preferably provided with a knurled surface. The sealing ring may be made of brass, the rings 2 and 3 of galvanized steel plate and the cast metal part of cast iron. The thermal conductivity of the materials is such that some melting of the brass ring 1 occurs towards the end of the pouring operation and gives rise to a brazing-like joint between it and the rings 2 and 3.
