Abstract
1314038 Mine roof supports FLETCHER SUTCLIFFE WILD Ltd 28 Sept 1971 [2 Oct 1970] 46858/70 Heading F1D An hydraulic mine roof support chock leg comprising a piston 3 slidable in a cylinder 2 is tiltable about its base plate assembly 17, a spring 13 compressed between annuli 10, 12 surrounding the cylinder being provided for automatically eliminating the tilt on release of the chock from the roof. When tilting occurs the cylinder 2 pivots about a convex or concave surface 27 on a base member 28 which mates with a complementary surface 21 on the cylinder and wall 8, an arcuate surface 22 also co-operating with an arcuate chamber 23 around the edge of a bore 24 in a plate 25. This pivoting lifts the annulus 10 due to the co-operation of an edge portion 33 thereof with the base plate 25. A sleeve 9 movable with the annulus 10, or the annulus 10 itself, is arranged to abut with a part stationary with respect to the cylinder 2, thereby to limit the tilt. A cap 16 screwed on to the cylinder 2 to precompress the spring 13. A cover 29 and a flexible seal 30 are provided.
