Abstract

1313988 Chairs F X KEANE 23 Feb 1972 [2 March 1971] 8450/72 Heading A4J [Also in Division B7] A seat assembly 11 for a chair e.g. a wheelchair 10 comprises an outer member 12 having an aperture to receive a central member 13 which is reciprocated vertically to reduce decubitus ulceration by means of a cam 29 - driven by electric motor 27 via reduction gearing 28 - and a follower 32 attached to central member 13. The outer member 12 has clips 14 for attachment to a chair. The seat padding may comprise (a) an open cell foam plastics cushion; (b) a sponge rubber sectional padding and (c) a rubber or elastic diaphragm fastened to the outer and central members and spanning the gap between them. The relative positions of seat members 12, 13 may be adjustable manually.
