Abstract
1313760 Reciprocating conveyers DETEXOMAT Ltd 21 Oct 1970 [15 Oct 1969] 50684/69 Heading B8A Textile articles (not shown) are received from serrated feed rollers 8 of a seaming machine of the kind described in Specification 1,278,581 by grippers 32, 34 (Fig. 5) carried by a conveyer carriage 18 (Figs. 1 and 3). The latter is mounted to run on rails 19a to a transfer station S2 where the article is released by the grippers 32, 34, and is received on an impaling pin 16 of a respective carriage 66 of either an endless conveyer 12, or a similar conveyer 12a. An escapement mechanism (Fig. 6, not shown) causes the gripper assembly of the carriage 18 to pivot to the right or left alternately on each successive conveying travel of the carriage 18. This ensures that successive articles are delivered alternately to the conveyers 12 and 12a. Each conveyer 12, 12a, consists of an endless train of carriages 66 propelled by the action of a pawl 84 which acts on successive carriages thereby pushing the whole train around in step-by-step fashion. The drive mechanism of the pawl 84 includes a rotating fork-ended indexing member 78. The latter engages a projection of each carriage 66 and thus moves the carriages successively to a position on the bend of the conveyer track where it is isolated from the remainder of the train of carriages. The grippers 32, 34, are normally retained in an open position (Fig. 5) against the action of a spring (48) (Fig. 4, not shown) tending to close them, by the action of a latch 54 having an operating arm 60. The grippers are reset to the position shown in Fig. 5 by the action of an arm 61, cam 40 and followers 50, 50.
