Abstract
1313739 Purifying exhaust gases UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 15 Sept 1970 [18 Sept 1969] 43907/70 Heading F1B An engine exhaust gas converter vessel comprises a tubular housing 1, Fig. 1 having ports 15, 18 in opposing sealed end sections, a tapered tubular form perforate section, forming with the housing 1 a manifold 25 and surrounding a central tubular perforate section 24 to provide an annular-form catalyst retaining section 23, the open end of the central perforate section being connected with a port and its opposite end connecting slideably with the interior end of the tapered section. A catalyst reservoir 36 may be mounted above the tapered section. The housing may be covered with an insulator e. g. asbestos or mineral wool. In another embodiment the housing is tapered to effect an increase in the crosssectional area of the manifold section from a location laterally adjacent a narrower open end of the tapered section to a location adjacent a wider interior closed end. Catalysts: Chromium, copper, nickel, platinum, singly or in combination of two or more composited with an inorganic refractory support material such as alumina, silica-alumina, silicaalumina-zirconia, silica-thoria and silica boria.
