Abstract

1313632 Releasable fastenings SIEMENS AG 19 April 1971 [5 March 1970] 22876/71 Heading E2A [Also in Divisions H1 and H2] An enclosure for housing electronic equipment screened from high-frequency electromagnetic fields is provided with a door 1 which is held against the door frame 2 by magnets 8 such that pressure is exerted on a continuous resilient electrical contact 3 between the door and the door frame ensuring a complete screening envelope 7. Electromagnets or permanent magnets may be used. In the case of permanent magnets, these are accommodated in slidable members of plastics material and pole pieces are mounted in a fixed member of non-magnetic material. Two rows of magnets are respectively fixed to the door and the door-frame. When unlike poles are disposed opposite one another the door is held closed, when like poles are disposed opposite each other the door can be opened. Alternatively the magnets can be fixed and the pole-pieces movable. A switch for the electromagnet can be located inside or outside the enclosure. In the former case the switch is operated by a plastics plunger located in a hole guide to eliminate high-frequency currents on the lines to the switch. In the embodiment with permanent magnets the screen is arranged between the poles of the magnets so that moving of one set of magnets can be made without perforating the screening envelope. The enclosure can also be used when a gastight seal is also required. The screen may be of copper foil.
