Abstract

1313271 Making clutch housings W SCHAEFFLER and G SCHAEFFLER [trading as INDUSTRIE WERK SCHAEFFLER OHG] 19 April 1971 [14 April 1970] 26934/71 Heading B3A [Also in Division F2] The housing 4 for a jamming-roller free wheel clutch 1 and adjacent roller bearings 2, 3 is formed without machining by deep drawing so that both bearing races 7, 8 have the same diameter. A housing is first formed with one race 7 and the jamming faces (5), Fig 3 (not shown), the race 8 on the opposite side of the clutch having an interior diameter equal to the outer envelope circle of the jamming faces whilst the wall thickness of the housing at this race is the same as at the other race. A supporting punch (11) having a diameter equal to the race 7 is then inserted into the housing which is drawn through a die (13) having a diameter equal to the external diameter of the housing at race 7 to reduce the diameter of race 8 to the required value. The diameters of the bearing races 7 and 8 may be larger than that of the jamming faces.
