Abstract

1312916 Transfers J G J PIRON 21 May 1970 [27 June 1969] 32716/69 Heading B6C [Also in Division C3] A transfer comprises a base 1 with ink signs 2 and microcapsules 3 adhering to the ink signs 2. When the microcapsules 3 are burst a material contained within them causes the signs 2 to adhere to a receptor surface. Preferably there is a layer 4 of inactive adhesive over the signs 2 and microcapsules 3, and an bursting of the microcapsules the adhesive overlying the signs 2 is activated by the contents of the microcapsules. The base may be of polystyrene, polyethylene, tetrafluorethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, styrene-butadiene copolymers, siliconecoated paper or paper coated with wax or chromium complexes of fatty acids. The microcapsules may be of gelatine or gum arabic, and may contain either an adhesive or a solvent which may be xylene, toluene, perchloroethylene, butyl acetate or mixtures of these and activates adhesive over the signs. The adhesive over the signs may be based on neoprene, polyisobutylene, ethylcellulose, nitrocellulose or cellulose acetobutyrate. Alternatively the adhesive may be a hardenable liquid, hardened or cured by an agent released by the burst microcapsules.
