1312805 Bag emptying apparatus H TAKIGUCHI 12 June 1970 [14 June 1969 3 Sept 1969 (2) 30 Oct 1969 24 Nov 1969] 28698/70 Heading B8C Apparatus for emptying a powder containing bag 62 comprises a conveyer 12 for carrying the bag past cutters arranged to open three sides of the bag, a hopper 61 for receiving the bag contents, and a device for removing the empty bag. In the embodiment of Figs. 1 and 2 one side a of the bag is first opened by a circular cutter 38 and the bag is then rotated by contact with a guide 39 so that circular cutters 28, 33 can then open sides c and d of the bag. Further movement of the conveyer 12 causes the upper wall of the opened bag to ride over a guide frame 56 so as to be engaged between a roller 43 and endless belts 42 which comprise the bag removing device. The lower wall of the bag first drops over the end of the conveyer 12 and is then pulled upwardly over guide springs 59 and the frame 56 by continued rotation of the roller 43 and the belts 42. The opened bag is thus unfolded and discharged through an opening 60 in a sheet-like form. A brush 50 below the belts 42 removes any powder adhering to the inside of the bag material. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) the cutter 38 is omitted and the cutter 28 is operative to open the side a of the bag whilst the bag is being rotated by the guide 39, the other two bag sides then being opened as before. In a third embodiment, Fig. 4, the cutters 38, 28 are replaced by a cutter 64 carried on a pivotable arm 63 which pivots to carry the cutter 64 across the side a of the bag, the cutter 64 and the cutter 33 then opening the other two sides as before. In fourth and fifth embodiments (Figs. 5, 6 and 7, 8, not shown) the guide 39 is replaced by three vertical rollers (73), and in the fourth embodiment the bag removing device comprises an upper pair of rollers (76), a lower brush roller (77) and horizontal guides (78) for supporting the emptied bag. In the fifth embodiment, the frame 58 is replaced by a guide frame (85) having a guide roller (87) and being pivotally supported on a shaft (86) with a spring (88) acting to maintain the frame (85) horizontal. In a sixth embodiment (Figs. 9, 10, not shown) a circular cutter (90) opens one side of the bag and a second circular cutter (93) is movable transversely across the conveyer 12 to first cut the leading side of the bag and then open the side opposite the side opened by the cutter (90). In a seventh embodiment (Figs. 10, 11, not shown) the bag 62 is horizontally bisected by a band saw (103) which is retracted just prior to reaching the trailing side of the bag, and the upper wall of the bag is pulled up a sloping plate (108) by rollers (109).
